Day 6-Journey Home. Home for now anyway!

Sorry it's been awhile since I blogged.  Been so busy and tired that I just haven't been able to get to it.  Any free time I have had in the evenings has been spent sitting on my bed relaxing.  However, you will all be pleased to know that we did make it back to Myanmar from Thailand.  While we were waiting to take the express train back to the airport we sat in these cool looking wicker chairs:

They were surprisingly uncomfortable.
I was able to take some pictures on the way back to the airport of the canals.  If you look closely at this one there is a net in the water.  I saw many of them and was wondering if they are to catch fish, or some other purpose.  Sometimes we saw them suspended above the water, sometimes in the water.  If any of our friends that have been to Thailand knows anything about this, please tell us!  I am super curious what role these nets play in daily life along the canals.
Did you know Bangkok is the Venice of the East?

We were early at the airport but we didn't mind because we didn't have to worry about being rushed through passport control.  Also we were able to eat a nice lunch at Wittards of Chelsea a yummy tea shop chain restaurant in the airport. Yummy sandwich and even yummier mint latte.  It was really good.  Much better than I expected.  Plus it was an intriguing green color.  In the waiting area for the plane we saw many hopeful tourists.  We felt so experienced compared to these newbies.   Here is one reading his Lonely Planet  Myanmar book.  There were at least 4 people zealously reading their books in preparation for their adventures.
We made it home to Myanmar safely.  Notice I call it home now?  It is home for now! The silly taxi drivers at the airport tried to take advantage of us.  Psh.  We live here.  When you do come into the country they tend to overwhelm you with their willingness to extend their services.  You have to bargain.  And they still will charge too much in the main part of the airport. So I stuck to my principles and got a cheaper price out on the street.  I was prepared to march further along even, but Matt seemed a little tired.  So we didn't get ripped off too much.  Just  a teensy bit.  Like a dollar. I still would have walked further though.  We did some laundry when we got home, much needed after all our our adventures in Bangkok.  I might have mentioned how hot it is there?

We only had one day of work for the week since we got home on Thursday evening.  It has been awhile since we showed a picture of the construction.  Friday I took this picture of some of local construction workers working hard.  The view is from our bedroom window.

I got to help in the kitchen which means I collect my market items before the mad rush.  Score!  Then in the evening we were able to hang out with the Brian and Ali at the Raj's.  We had a great evening listening to their amazing stories and eating yummy snacks.

Saturday the first of September was the start of a new service year.  However, we were too worn out to go in service.  Also I woke up not feeling quite well.  So we slept in and later tried to rearrange our room so we could have people over.  After an hour of moving things about we put everything back.  Then we decided to open up the space we did have by switching our desk and chairs.  Much better.   We hung our painting and it felt like home!  In the evening we went to House 5 for Mexican food, courtesy of the Bates and Johnsons.  I don't know if I can adequately describe how delicious it was.  When you are used to having certain kinds of food on a regular basis and then you get to have it in Southeast Asia after going without it for months, well, it tastes AMAZING.

That's it for now.  I won't bore you all with the day to day goings on anymore for now.  More adventures to come.

We love and miss you all!
